Yesterday evening I came home with a puppy. My husband was not excited by this. The kids love her and I am head over heels. My husband, Robert, does not like small dogs. Our puppy’s name is Dolly and she is an eight week old chorkie.
Dolly is either completely clueless that Robert is not a fan or she simply doesn’t care. He can shoot her an annoyed look or refuse to pick her up and Dolly just tries harder. She has literally crawled inside of his coat for a nap. He has worked on estimates today and she has not left his side.
Sometimes I can be preoccupied with myself or stuck in my own little ways and lose time with God. I can shoot my circumstances an annoyed look or refuse to look at my bible at all and He just digs in deeper. No matter how willing I am to participate in my relationship with God, He is always there waiting. No matter how unworthy I feel of His love, God dispenses it all the same.
God is unchanging. He is I AM. Not I was or I will be. I AM. My God is always there. His love never ceases. His desire to have a relationship with me never goes away. He is the same today as He was yesterday. His consistency is infinite.
I’m hoping that my husband will drop the “mad hubby” act and give Dolly a real chance. Regardless, she will keep loving on him and is not going anywhere. Dolly is needy. God is not. I think that part of it moves my heart even more.
God doesn’t NEED a single thing from me. He is great and wonderful and powerful whether or not I do a single thing spiritually. God WANTS me to connect with Him. He wants me to know Him. God. Big, amazing, all-powerful God always has room for me on His schedule and will always save me a seat at His table.
Mama, take comfort in knowing how present He is. He is working even when we are not. He is there even when we are absent. He is ready even when we are too busy. When we are drowning in laundry or arguing over the right way to solve a math equation, God is there. When we are broken and ashamed, God is there. When we don’t even think of Him, He is there. He is the great I Am.
God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I am has sent me to you.’
