Little Gavin Ryder has been counting down the days until his Green Arrow birthday party. It never fails, every October, we meet a lot of engagements and curve balls that push his party to the end of the month. Every morning he wakes up and asks me, “Mommy, is today my party?”
I remind him how many days there are until his big fiesta and explain to him why he cannot wear his Green Arrow costume that day. He always seems a little disappointed, but he is our most patient kid and seems to put it in his little mental box of “things to look forward to”.
I assume this is how I must look when I go to God. I have this destination I am aiming for or this result I am hoping for and I wake up and ask God, “Is today the day?”
God just smiles and I wait. I believe for it. I yearn for it. And I wait. When Ryder is told, “Not yet”, he doesn’t give up because he knows when his mommy says something will happen, it will. God always provides.
“Not yet” and “No” are two different responses. They have two different meanings. How many times do we treat them the same? We want what we want now and we lose heart during the wait.
If you are working for it, results will happen. If you are giving it to God, God will work out the best solution. Your Green Arrow party is coming, Mama. Do not lose heart and do not be discouraged.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
