Last weekend we took Jaxon and Sadie to an outdoor, community event. There was so much to do. The event offered obstacle courses, bounce houses, snow cones, and a rock wall. There was food and music.
The kids had a ball. Jaxon immediately spotted a girl from school and the two were inseparable the rest of the day. He brought her waters and encouraged her on the rock wall.
Jaxon directed her where she should put her feet and then where to grab to pull herself up towards the top of the wall. She couldn’t get much higher than where she started, but Jaxon still encouraged her with cheers and praise.
His friend finally gave up and removed her harness. Jaxon patted her on the back. She didn’t seem discouraged by her performance and I wondered if that was because she believed that Jaxon believed she was a rockstar.
This little day out, this moment, reminded me of you. So often I talk to my mamas and they diminish their progress. Instead of seeing how far they have come from ground zero, they notice how far they are from the top of the wall. I thought it was beautiful watching that little boy reassure his friend.
The best part was, I knew Jaxon was genuinely thrilled for her progress. Your steps may seem small, but a step is a step!! Your effort pays off. When you stack it together, you’re climbing walls and ultimately, your mountain.
I hope that if you cannot believe in yourself, you can take heart in believing that I BELIEVE IN YOU. I know what God says about you, Mama, and trust me, you have not peaked. You have not lived your only glory days. There is so much more to come.
Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
You, Mama, are a force. You’re climbing higher today than you were yesterday and I hope you take just a moment to celebrate that. Baby steps matter because EVERY STEP MATTERS. God will tell you where to put your feet and your hands to get you there and I will cheer for you along the way.
Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
